20020426 Zion National Park UT

Had breakfast at same restaurant. We got packed up, ate, got gas and ice and started out for Zion National Park UT.  The road through the park is red. We went through the tunnel following a camper. They have to stop traffic when a large vehicle is going through because the road is so narrow there can be only one-way traffic. Then we came to the switchbacks. Wow! We made it ok but Mary Harriett said it was really tough to drive. We got to the visitors center, looked around and got on the shuttle bus to tour the rest of the park. It was spectacular looking up at those sandstone mountains. The shapes and the colors!! It rained a little and we decided not to try hiking the trails, although it looked like some of them were doable. We saw some people climbing the rocks, one pair was halfway through a 3-day climb. We went back to gift shop and made some purchases. I bought a bird call recorder for Mary Harriett, some cards and tapes for the little boys. We left the park and looked for a place to eat in Springdale UT and wound up at the SwitchbackAfter lunch, on our way to Rt. I15, a roadrunner ran right across the road in front of us, what a thrill. We drove through rain and wind until we got to Nephi UT, which is about 100 miles south of Salt Lake City UT
